KOKO holds host to Gerard Way’s SOLD OUT London show, on what was only a small UK run of shows, and despite the cold weather his fans come out in forces queuing so far that the venue can only just been seen.

Picked tonight to open the show by the man himself were Darlia a UK band hailing from Blackpool. The band have a sense of 90s US grunge that fitted in well with the show tonight and was a great way to open the show. Darlia were well received by the fans and had definitely gained a few fans tonight!

Special guest of the night, Chantal Claret definitely brought something fresh to the set with her weird and wonderful style! Within three songs Chantal Claret was already in the crowd dancing. During the set she later added, “Sometimes I regret writing fast songs because then I have to dance. But fuck it I like to dance.” This was a very fun set from the indie / power pop singer who has a lively and very bubbly performance, it was evident to see she enjoyed it just as much as the crowd.

Chantal Claret finished her set off with her song ‘Davy Crockett’ that husband Jimmy Urine (Mindless Self Indulgence) jointed in on.

Within minutes of the Chantal claret ‘s set finishing and the start of the set up for Gerard Way the crowd already began to chant with anticipation, for headliner Gerard Way. This was indeed a special night of music for a few reasons. After the split of my Chemical Romance, many thought they would never see the likes of their idol, Gerard Way perform again, but also this is probably the smallest venue he will be playing in the UK, with a Brixon Academy date already booked.

As Gerard Way took to the stage there was a raw from the crowd and within seconds he had a hold of the crowds attention and keep it until the very last note of the night. Despite only having the one solo album out ‘Hesitant Alien’ he had a full and long set. Gerard went on to add that he needs to go and record a new album and he stated he should be going into the studio in September of next year.

This was an excellent set from the smartly suited new soloist, who is still as charismatic and a show that will always be remembered by the fans in attendance tonight!
