What influences you as a band and individuals?
“Kris’s heart belongs to punk rock but he’s also an avid listener of anything from John Coltrane to The Dillenger Escape Plan. Evan is greatly inspired by Rush, Every Time I Die and Exotic Animal Petting Zoo. Joe has mentioned Silversun Pickups and Manchester Orchestra as a few of his favourites and I’m all over the place with my love for Incubus, Lana Del Rey and Barenaked Ladies. As you can see, none of this really makes sense but it all adds up to a wonderful bunch of strange people. Collectively, we can’t deny our love for Letlive and Glassjaw. Always”
Your new EP 'Omega' is out soon, how are you feeling about it?
“We’re getting really excited! So many peaks and valleys occurred before, during and after the making of the album. With the coming and going of members, slight change of direction and dialling into more commitment with the newest additions, the band has shifted into something we couldn’t imagine. So to actually put out a quality product that is really close to our hearts as a different FFT, we’re elated to be moving in the right direction.”
What can people expect from the new EP?
Jenn: “Rip-roaring drums and bass lines, intricate guitar work, a little bit of noise and a lot of intense emotion can be found in these songs. After hearing the first two tracks, one might be a bit surprised at the sweet-mannered ballad smack in the middle of the album but it’s just a small glimpse at the softer side of us because the last two tracks dive right back into aggression.”
Can you tell us a bit about 'Omega'?
“Whether it’s about breaking free from the holds of powers that be, pushing beyond sexism in the music industry, tearing down expectations and preconceived notions or eradicating manipulative relationships, this EP is a means to disentangle us from whatever it is that has been holding us back. It represents the end of our Omega so we can begin a new chapter.”
Is there any plan of a tour in support of the new release?
“Nothing is concrete as of this moment; however touring is in the works now that we are finally able to. We’re hoping to get on the road by this summer and if not, we don’t have an excuse not to be on the road by fall. We’re working hard to tie up loose ends to make it happen!”
What’s your favourite song on the EP and why?
“We could probably all agree that ‘Hail Mary Hall Pass’ is a favourite. The song is notably dynamic and the groove in the midsection of the song makes it a blast to play!”
What do you want to achieve as a band?
“Touring internationally has been a tremendous dream of ours. It seems like wishful thinking now, but hopefully with the release of an LP, we can make this happen! We just want to reach and inspire as many people as we can because we have been and continue to be people who find acceptance in music.”
Do you have a fact about the band that the fan's don't know?
“As much as we love playing our instruments, practice sometimes can get a little monotonous. So when we need a break, we take “band field trips” and like little kids, we indulge in frozen yogurt and giggle at each other. It’s really refreshing and we end up playing so much tighter afterwards!”
Why should people check out the new EP?
“This EP offers genuine sentiment. Whether you like music that is heavy-hitting and aggressive or you like your music to stumble into a more vulnerable side, you might find something that you can relate to on ‘Omega.’”
Describe the band in three words
“Passionate. Driven. Silly.”
