So I caught up with the band to find out a little more about the band and how they feel about the new release.
What are your musical influences for the new EP?
“Brand New, Circa Survive, Manchester Orchestra, Thrice, Twin Atlantic, Biffy Clyro amongst others”
Why should people listen to PaperPlane?
“We hope we're something unique enough for someone to take interest in, but to be honest we don't fit in very well with many bands. Instead, we're often approached by people saying we sound like "their favourite band "x" etc" which we always find incredibly interesting, and in that way, it seems we're becoming very accessible to a wider range of audiences!”
What can fans or new listeners expect from the new EP?
“We feel we've captured a realistic sound and progressive representation of us as the live band we are now. We hope new and old fans can relate stronger to each new release as we progress as a band! It's definitely a new direction from the first album and perhaps a more distinguished sound.”
As your EP release comes ever closer to being released how do you all feel?
“We're all very excited to release it and for our EP launch show in Leeds. Some songs were written quite a while ago and we're happy to get them out there in cd form! We feel we've reached a point where the recordings represents us strongly and we're very happy to get it out there.”
What is your favourite song from the EP and why?
“'Rose' - most fun to play live, most atmospheric and progressive. It gives us a lot of room for dynamics and changes live. However 'Strings Like Ribbons' is another big track for us. We feel we've got a strong chorus here, allowing for a catchy more "mainstream" style, whilst not straying away from the genre of music/and band we are. We had a lot of fun recording the video which will be coming out, accompanying the EP release, 12th August.”
What do you want fans to take from ‘Rebuild’?
“We want "Rebuild" to encourage them to come and see us at a live show and enjoy the songs. We're hoping it encourages people to actively seek out their favourite bands in general and go out and support more live music in their local town/city.”
What do fans not know about the band, that you think they should know?
“We plan on writing/recording a new album in the next year, which will be a progression from the EP of even more diverse songs. We can stretch our legs on an album and have a bit more space to experiment.”
Describe the band in three words
“A Live Band”
What do you want to achieve as a band?
“Spread our music to a wider audience while maintaining the same level of contact with our fans that we enjoy now.”
Are there any plans for a UK tour?
“We're working on putting together a set of shows together for the UK this September, and continuously booking shows throughout the year on various tours (to be announced).”
What does 2013 hold for the band?
“The launch show in Leeds (11.08.13), new music videos/live videos and recording diaries late in the year, tours both UK and further a-field, then continuing to write a new album, which we aim to record in the near future.”
